Installation Procedure - Urban and Rural Layout

  1. Ideally road surface temperature should be 10 degrees Celsius and rising
  2. Ensure area is dry.
  3. Demarcate area to receive emulsion using chalk.
  4. Apply emulsion to demarcate area at a rate of 0,75L/m² using a block brush.
  5. Unpack BRP Rumble Hump kits from plastic packaging.
  6. Wait for the emulsion to break.
  7. Place 300mm (urban) / 1,0m (rural) wide strips on to emulsion. Butt edges at joints – do not overlap.
  8. Apply a small quality of emulsion around the edges and joints – blind this emulsion with sand.
  9. Apply emulsion to paper side of 200mm (urban) / 750mm (rural) wide strips.
  10. Allow emulsion to break.
  11. Place 200mm (urban) / 750mm (rural) wide strips centrally onto the already laid 300mm (urban) / 1,0m (rural) strips.
  12. Repeat steps 9 to 11 for the 100mm (urban) / 500mm (rural) wide strips.
  13. Open to traffic.
  14. Sweep area clean of loose materials.

Storage

  • Store flat on a level, dry surface.
  • Store paper-side downwards.
  • Store out of sunlight and water.
  • If stored in this manner, the product will store for a least nine years.

Specification

  • Aggregate to COLTO Specification: 19,0mm choked with 9,5mm aggregate.
  • Mass per linear metre (i.e. all three layers): Urban – 18kg and Rural – 54Kg.
  • Bitumen rubber spread rate: 2,2 L /m² per layer.

BRP Traffic Circles (roundabouts)

BRP Traffic Circles (roundabouts) have been designed to provide an economic solution to problems that traffic engineers and planners face when designing or altering intersections.

The problems faced at intersections are, inter alia:

  • How to ensure traffic safety.
  • How to enable the least disruption to free flowing traffic.
  • How to ensure pedestrian safety.
  • How to provide an aesthetically acceptable feature.
  • How to provide a simple, economic solution.

The vast majority of urban intersections are controlled by either traffic signals, stop signs or yield signs. These controls are not suitable for optimum control 24 hours per day. BRP Traffic Circles (roundabouts) provide optimum traffic control in most situations by offering numerous advantages over other control options.
